June may offer the best of summer before it gets unbearably hot and wildfire smoke rolls in. So make the most of this green, sunny month in the City of Trees — there’s certainly no shortage of things to do!
Catch Live Music & Comedy
On the City Cast Boise podcast guide to June, friend of the show Matthew Melton recommended the Liquid Lounge, which has reclaimed its corner of the local comedy scene. The lounge is hosting multiple shows a week all throughout June, but Matthew is particularly excited for the Juneteenth show, which features local Black comedians and other comedians of color.
Another great way to support Black art on Juneteenth is by going to local musician Mungo’s Great Garden Escape show.
Hey Boise will feature plenty of concerts throughout the month, but here are a few recurring series to check out:
- Alive After 5 at the Grove Plaza
- Outdoor Summer Concert Series at JUMP
- Ford Idaho Center amphitheater shows
- Outlaw Field music series
- Great Garden Escape concert series at the Idaho Botanical Gardens
What to Eat
On the restaurant front, Matthew recommends North Italia which just opened at the Village in Meridian, and City Cast Boise host Lindsay Van Allen shouted out Amano in Caldwell, which just opened its new space.
And a few of this summer’s can’t-miss food festivals also fall in June!:
- Savor Idaho, June 8
- The Emmett Cherry Festival, June 11 - 14
- The Beer & Bacon Festival, June 14
Get Outside!
Boise’s parks shine their brightest as third spaces during June, and are the perfect landing space for any kind of gathering. If you’ve been wanting to find a new favorite park, now’s the time to do it! (There are now 100 to pick from, after all).
While you’re outside, why not catch a show? The Boise Hawks have a whopping 15 home games this month. Check out a $5 Tuesday, or catch fireworks on a Friday — take your pick, it’ll be a good time! Just bring your sunscreen.
And last but not least, head to the mountains. Here are a few bucket list camping destinations from yours truly; just be extra careful to leave no trace this year.
