Baseball may be America’s favorite pastime, but I’m still shocked at how many Boiseans have never been to a Hawks game. If you’re new to the ballpark, here’s what you need to know to have a good time.
Enjoy the Hometown Baseball Vibes
The Memorial Stadium in Garden City is bigger than a high school baseball stadium, but there’s no mistaking it for an MLB stadium. That’s part of the fun of a Boise Hawks game. Dogs are welcome, and there isn’t a bad seat in the house.
The games can be competitive but they still have the pure fun of professional sports. Plus, every employee I’ve talked to there has been incredibly kind and happy to point you to whatever you need.
When to Go and Where to Sit
If you want to scream-sing “Sweet Caroline” with hundreds of other tipsy and sunburnt baseball fans, Saturday night games are for you. If you want a little more room between yourself and strangers, a weeknight game may be a better choice.
Tip: Everybody wants to sit on the first base line, but the third base line section offers the most protection from the sun in the evenings.
What to Eat and Drink
Boise’s unfortunate dearth of quality hot dogs is remedied by the many options at Boise Hawks games. Their concessions are no joke, from the nachos to the sauerkraut hot dogs to the saltiest popcorn you’ve ever had.
And it wouldn’t be a Hawks game without some ice cream at the end of the first base line. They’ve got root beer and Blue Moon floats, or you can pay a little extra to eat your ice cream out of a small baseball helmet bowl.
The Hawks play at Memorial Stadium every day except August 5 until August 11, and then they return for another home stint on August 27.
