Boise has so many great things to explore, why wait for someone to do it with you? Whether you’re a seasoned solo adventurer or curious about what to do on your own, here are the best solo dates around Boise.

In Defense of the Solo Date

There’s beauty in enjoying your own company, whether you’re single or partnered up. The key is to set an intention of doing something just for you.

I think our own Evelyn Avitia, producer of the City Cast Boise podcast, perfectly summed up the essence of gallivanting on your own.

I think it really allows people to build confidence and really practice self-love, and just being more comfortable in enjoying your own presence.Evelyn Avitia, Producer, City Cast Boise

🏩 Have a Staycation

Hotels aren’t just for tourists. Evelyn recently had a solo stay at Hotel Renegade and highly recommends it. It’s a perfect way to explore parts of Boise that you haven’t seen, though the hotel lobby has live music on Fridays if you’d rather stay in.

🎟️ Low-Pressure and Budget Friendly

If the concept of going solo gives you pause, start small. Find that recipe you’ve been meaning to try and make yourself a meal at home. Better yet, sign up for a cooking class at Season + Taste.

A simple coffee shop visit is also an inexpensive self-date — try Common Ground Coffee & Market, started by two friends looking to build community one cup at a time.

And as Nicole Kidman would say, we come to this place … I’m a lifelong lover of cinema, so going to the movies by myself is a tradition to this day — I happen to be married to a fellow film fanatic, but when she’s not down to see a particular movie I take the opportunity to go by myself. From foreign dramas to raunchy comedies, sitting “alone” in a dark theater has gotten me through the best and worst times of my life.

Nick Quah, our friend and critic at Vulture, has the down low on which theaters have the best snacks and where to catch interesting films.

Want more solo date recommendations? Producer Evelyn Avitia has advice on how to set intentions and one thing Boise is missing for a great self rendezvous.
