National margarita day is in February for some reason, but we're bringing it into the summer where it belongs. City Cast Boise’s resident margarita aficionado Evelyn Avitia taste tested a bunch of restaurants and bars for us.
Coa de Jima
For dinner with your margarita, you want Coa de Jima. Evelyn had a pineapple variety, but honestly, you can’t go wrong with any of their flavors.
Bardenay
Even the non-Mexican restaurants are taking margaritas seriously these days. Evelyn calls Bardenay’s margarita one the most underrated in Boise, and she recommends the prickly pear.
Café Olé
Go on Wednesdays for a two-for-one special on margs after 4 p.m. Who needs to work on Thursday, anyway?
Casa Añejo
This downtown Caldwell spot is top-tier; it’s got a modern Mexican feel and they put a lot of preparation into their margaritas. It’s Evelyn’s absolute favorite, so check it out.
Matador
Try any of their fruity combinations (may I recommend the blackberry-habanero), or elevate your tequila expertise here. Plus, their happy hour goes 4 - 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. - close daily.
Hap Hap Lounge
This might not be the place you’d expect to find a good margarita, but the new and highly popular bar above the Treefort Music Hall has some great tequila and mezcal drinks to go with a solid margarita.
