With Feb. 9 being National Pizza Day, I may be getting ahead of myself by sharing these pizza recommendations. City Cast Boise’s team is still going to weigh in closer to the holiday, but altogether too many Hey Boise readers sent in their favorites to not dedicate a section to them.
So if you need to phone it in for dinner tonight, here’s who your fellow readers think you should give a call.
🍕 Boiseans’ Favorite Pizzerias
Graham: “New York Richies makes a good Italian pie, but if I want Italian, I'm heading to Cassanova's. Where New York Richies gets my business week in and week out, is with their Indian-inspired pizzas ... they are to DIE for and have by far been the most frequently ordered pizza style by my wife and I for the last four years.”
Unbeknownst to me, the Hey Boise readership and New York Richie’s market are apparently one and the same, because the northwest Garden City pizzeria was the most commonly shouted out restaurant in our inbox.
Loraine said of New York Richies: “Wonderful pizza and the people that work there are great.”
And another reader wrote: “I've never had a bad pizza there. They sell it by the slice or whole pizzas. It's a small business and I love supporting them.”
Moving on, plenty of folks enjoy Boise staples like Guido’s and Americana Pizza.
Andrew said: “My favorite NY style pizza is from Guido's original NY Style pizzeria downtown on 5th. But if I want to sit in and enjoy a more adventurous locally themed pizza then I'll go and get something like the honey badger or the Gem state of mind (there's potato on that pizza) from The Wylder on Broad St.”
Ashley recommended a Meridian joint: “You need to go to Johnny Bronx! They always have an awesome special slice that changes every 2 weeks! They’re the best! ”
Flying Pie, Flat Bread, Black Moon, North End Pizza, Three Wood Pizza, Wiseguy, Red Bench, and Lulu’s also got mentions. If you haven’t been to Black Moon, the new spot in Garden City, check it out!
🍽️ What We’re Missing
More than one former Midwesterner wrote in, saying that our deep dish options are lacking
Andrew: “I like both Chicago and Detroit style deep dish pizzas too but haven't found anyone that does either of them well here yet.”
And a couple folks, like Helen, would like more gluten-free options: “Cross-contamination is a real thing, but I'm hoping someone out there offers safe pizza for us celiacs.”
One step ahead of me, Taylor wrote that Casanova and Black Moon both have quality gluten-free or gluten-friendly options.
