Here are a few bites of restaurant news this week.
Find Your New Regular Eatery
Taste of Downtown Boise starts today for a ten-day spree of special menu items at dozens of downtown restaurants. The 13th annual program from the Downtown Boise Association offers $12 specials, prix fixe menus, and social hours. Check out the schedules and menus! Taste of Downtown Boise wraps up on Sunday, Nov. 5.
And don’t forget — with income disparities and inconsistent wages, we’re tipping at least 20% these days.
Vegan Celebrations & Closures
Oh Vegan Soul is celebrating a one-year anniversary in their location at Chow Public Market.
And while celebrating on Instagram, owner and chef Mae Gaines also wrote that it is a “bittersweet” celebration.
“It was a tough year and although we are still here, I am disheartened by the loss of other vegan businesses in our area. I had hoped that by this time, we’d be celebrating a growing community but losing others along the way was not a part of the dream.”
Downtown vegan restaurant Frondescence closed this week, following on the heels of Alchemist Plant Pub, both of which were open for less than a year.
Alyonka Break-In
Boise’s only Russian restaurant, Alyonka Russian Cuisine, was broken into earlier this week. A burglary suspect broke the glass front door and stole cash from the till, but hasn’t been identified yet.
A post on Alyonka’s Facebook reads: “We’re devastated, but we believe in the strength of our community.” Anyone who has information about the break-in is asked to contact BPD Officer J. Arend at jarend@cityofboise.org or (208) 570-6300.
