Your Daily Guide

Hey, neighbors! Our last podcast episode and the last iteration of this newsletter (the 846th) come out on Friday. These last weeks have been a bit of a whirlwind, and I’m still not quite sure what’s next — but I know I want to keep the door open to starting my own newsletter about Boise.

I can’t make any promises about what a new newsletter might look like, and I’m going to take some time to think about it. But City Cast has been kind enough to offer me the space to ask you, dedicated Hey Boise readers, to sign onto a waitlist for a potential project of my own.

All I’ll ask for now is that if you want to possibly receive that first new email sometime in the coming months, drop your email address here. I’m prodigiously open to ideas and especially to encouragement at this time. 💚

Boise Gets Another Newsletter, Maybe

What Boise's Talking About

New Law Prioritizing Cars Halts Projects

Efforts to rebuild a west downtown section of State Street — which included public feedback on designs for bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure — are now on ice for two years because of a new state law. [BoiseDev]

ICE Detained 105 People in Wilder

The federal Department of Homeland Security says ICE detained 105 people in the FBI’s raid of a Wilder racetrack on Sunday. Five people were arrested in connection to illegal gambling, while the arrests expanded to zip-tying children. [Idaho Statesman]

What Can $50 Get You in Boise?

Between rising costs and tighter budgets, our city is not as inexpensive as it used to be. So, we are revisiting the time our City Cast Boise team took on a challenge to see how far $50 could go, and if it was still possible to have a great time in Boise without breaking the bank. First, where was last week’s photo?

I was looking for Jaialdi, but accepted Basque Block — who cares about grades on the last week of class?

Now for this week’s challenge.

The ultimate Where Is It? (Blake Hunter / City Cast Boise)

The ultimate Where Is It? (Blake Hunter / City Cast Boise)

In this final week of Hey Boise, I was racking my brain to figure out what special location around the city deserved the last nod in this challenge.

Walking on the Greenbelt, I realized I was already there: The ultimate “meet you at ___,” Boise’s calling card, pearl necklace, and one of the best reasons for living here. It’s cleansing us constantly, and always there for a little check-in. I’ve hoped this newsletter can give you one droplet of the comfort and clarity this ever-changing water brings.

You know where it is.
