We’re delighted to have Lindsay Van Allen on the City Cast Boise team as our podcast host, and hope you are too! Here are a few things Lindsay has on her mind.
Why did you want to leave a career in health care to join City Cast Boise?
It was an incredible honor to get to be a NICU nurse and care for the tiniest residents of Boise. Those are experiences that I will always cherish, but downloading TikTok, during the pandemic, unexpectedly changed my life. I began making videos where I discussed politics and what it was like to live in Idaho, and very quickly, it became not just a hobby, but something I was very passionate about. I realized that getting to speak to the Boise/Idaho experience would be an absolute dream job. When I saw a job listing for City Cast, it seemed like maybe that dream job could become a reality.
What are you hoping to achieve as the new host that you can’t do with your TikTok?
TikTok algorithms make it very difficult to discuss a wide range of topics or focus on anything positive. I’ve felt pigeonholed into only discussing very specific types of political stories, and trying to keep videos shorter than 2 minutes makes it difficult to add any nuance to conversations. I can’t wait to really dig into the difficult and controversial things happening in Boise, but I’m also excited to highlight all the things that I love about this area.
What’s something you love about Boise?
I love how it feels like a small town, while still being connected to the bigger city aspects of this area that I enjoy. I want to live in a place where my kids can feel safe riding their bikes around to visit friends or go to the park, and we can also take them to see a minor league hockey game or to a concert, for one of their favorite bands, without having to leave our hometown.
