Before you overlook the sometimes dreaded month of January, there is value in a humble beginning to the year! And while not everyone and their dog is throwing an event like last month, there’s still plenty of fun, reflection, and relaxation to be had.
Taking Things Slow
For folks like me, the January resolution is to get through with as little seasonal depression as possible. Here are a few top-of-mind tricks for that.
This season is all about slowing down, and editing your list of items to stress about. It’s also a season for story-telling, so go:
- Spend an evening at the movies (especially at The Flicks).
- Enjoy live music and other art, which we’ll be sharing plenty of here.
- Try a new restaurant you’ve been meaning to get to — or an entirely new cuisine you haven’t explored.
Staying Active
Join our audio producer Evelyn Avitia as she embarks on her skiing journey, or skip the hassle and try something more tame like snowshoeing.
So far this winter, we’ve had very little snow here in the valley, so hikes in the foothills are still an option. But as always, consult the Ridge to Rivers trail map to see the latest information on conditions, and don’t use muddy trails.
Or try transporting yourself like reader Diane, who swims at the YMCA. “Swimming is a summer activity so it feels good in the winter.”
Trying New Things
The City of Boise’s roster of community activities and classes is live, with sports leagues and pottery classes and more. Or try your hand at a trivia event to keep your brain turning.
