Survey: Options for 8th & 9th Streets in North End
The Ada County Highway District (ACHD) is planning changes to 8th and 9th Streets in the North End and is asking for community input. The project spans 8th from Union to Lemp Streets and 9th from Fort to Heron Streets, and all the side streets between 8th and 9th.
The proposed changes include bulb-outs, curb and gutter issues, sidewalk improvement, and traffic calming measures. ACHD is currently asking for feedback through a survey, and is hosting a public open house on Wednesday, Aug. 21 at Longfellow Elementary school from 5 - 7 p.m. to discuss the changes.
‘Reasonable and Prudent’ Greenbelt Regulations
The Greenbelt can go from idyllic to chaotic — and even dangerous — very quickly depending on the speed and congestion of vehicles and pedestrians. Local offices spanning the pathway including several cities and Ada County are implementing new rules for pathway users, and trying to figure out how the path can adapt to population growth.
The county approved a new speed ordinance that limits speed and behavior to what is “reasonable and prudent” to Greenbelt conditions. That means no strict speed limit across the path system, but gives law enforcement the ability to give Greenbelt users an infraction for poor use, and even a misdemeanor if it leads to injury of property or a person.
