City Cast Boise

Boise isn’t the only city in Idaho that now has to vote for its city council members by district. Meridian and Nampa both have over 100,000 residents, which means they both have to follow the new requirement from the Legislature.

I’ll dig into Meridian’s mayoral race once it’s shaped up a bit more, but here’s where the city council races stand.

’s seat isn’t up for election this cycle.

 Here’s the most significant race that’s shaped up so far: Two incumbents, 

, are running for this seat. Hoaglun holds the council’s third seat, but only because it was called that when he was last elected.

 No one has announced they’re running for this seat yet, as far as I could find.

 is a retired police officer who was selected by Mayor Robert Simison to fill the vacated seat of a member who left to work as a legislator, and was sworn in in January. He’s running for election.

’s seat is up for election this November, and has yet to announce whether she’ll run for her seat. 

 that she’s the only current council member who was drawn out of their district, so she’d have to move to run for the same seat again.

’s term doesn’t expire until January 2026.

We’re in the homestretch of this election season, but it will get more rowdy as the clock runs down. You can clear up one important question about your vote today: where to vote.

Due to redistricting, your polling place may have changed from the last time you voted — mine did! — or maybe this is your first time voting.

You may have received a mailer from Ada County giving you your precinct, congressional district, and legislative district numbers. But if not, or you lost it, here’s a step-by-step process of figuring it out.

1. Enter your address into 

 that will tell you your precinct number, and if your precinct has changed.

2. Then use 

if your polling place and details aren’t coming up, try putting in your address again but include your city and ZIP code. I only put my street address the first time and it didn’t work, but it did once I added the ZIP code.

3. From there, I recommend finding your sample ballot, either by selecting “View Details” on your address, or by clicking “View All Ballots,” and scrolling down to select yours.

If you don’t register online, you can still register and vote in person on election day, Tuesday, Nov. 8.

You can also vote early between Oct. 24 and Nov. 4.
