💌 Love for The Flicks
The beloved indie movie theater The Flicks turned 40 this weekend, and to honor the occasion we’re resharing some of our readers’ comments and memories on the local institution from last movie season.
Roberta: “I know [where it is] because I spent my wedding evening there watching a movie on Valentine’s Day.”
Cali: “My favorite, and only, place in Boise to get brewers yeast in popcorn!”
Caroline: “Before catching a movie, sitting near The Flicks fireplace during the snowy winters with a glass of glühwein is so cozy!”
Tamara: “So many great memories!!! Having the best popcorn in town with my favorite beer.”
Sue: “This cozy theater has been a favorite of mine since I was in college. Nearly 40 years later it is still a welcoming place for delicious food, drinks and conversation before or after a movie.”

What Makes This Movie Theater Special
The Flicks offers a lot of things that you just can’t get anywhere else in a city our size. First, it was until recently the only local theater around, and the only theater you can bring food into.
It also serves unexpectedly good food. You might not anticipate a restaurant in a movie theater to make lasagna as well as burgers, but everything on the menu is good.
It’s also, dare I say it, the only theater here that shows movies for the sake of movies (and I don’t mean that in a pretentious, film bro-y way). You can just tell that everyone is there because they love cinema.
A lot of millennials and Gen Z grew up with only blockbuster movie theaters around, and this is a different, special kind of experience that will remind you why you love Boise.
