What’s Being Built Behind The Owyhee?

For months now, a crane has towered over the intersection of Grove Street and 11th Street downtown, and the former parking lot behind The Owyhee has been the site of a construction project that is growing taller and taller.

But what’s actually being built there?

The project is called Hotel Renegade, developed by Hendricks Commercial Properties. Hendricks also bought The Owyhee, which was built in 1910, just before the pandemic.

The new eight-story, 122-room hotel is designed with Boise in mind, says Hendricks, and will include lots of wood and brick elements. The corner of the building on 11th and Grove Streets will be rounded and have large balconies connected to suites on each story.

The hotel will house two bars — one on the ground floor and one on the roof, where there will also be a banquet area and outdoor patio.

Hendricks also built the Warehouse Food Hall downtown. Their website says they plan to finish construction in 2024.
