You Might Be Surprised to Hear the Predictions About Idaho’s Mild and Dry Upcoming Winter

Here in Idaho, we are no stranger to cold winters. We simply bundle up, sip on a hot beverage, and express gratitude for our working furnaces. However, this upcoming winter it appears we don't have anything to dread. The Farmers’ Almanac 2024-2025 winter predictions were recently released, and Idaho can expect a fairly mild and dry winter. Are you ready for it?

The Farmers’ Almanac has predicted winter weather around the United States for more than 230 years. They use their data to help you prepare for the upcoming season and while it is hard to be 100 percent correct, they do boast an impressive 80 percent accuracy rate.

While winter doesn’t officially start until December 21, it seems that here in Idaho, we start worrying about winter weather before fall even arrives. Fortunately, according to the Farmers' Almanac predictions this year, the cold, snowy weather may not be anything to keep us up at night. In fact, in our little corner of the country, we can expect a mild and dry winter.

Keep in mind, this doesn't mean that we won't see snow. Precipitation and snow will likely be about average this upcoming year. And, we will likely start to see snow by mid-November. Don't give up on a white Christmas quite yet ...

However, Idaho's snowiest periods are expected to be in 2025. Early and late January and mid-March are when you can expect large storms to bring heavy snowfall. Areas in the western Rocky Mountains are also expected to see large storms around the same time. Skiers, snowboarders, and other winter enthusiasts will have lots to celebrate during these winter weather events.

So, just how cold will Idaho's winter be in 2024-2025? The Farmers’ Almanac predicts that it won't be too bone-chilling and temperatures will be above normal. As usual, you can expect the coldest months to be late November and late January.

When will winter end in Idaho? According to the Farmers’ Almanac forecast, stormy weather will continue into March. And, as in years past, Mother Nature will likely tease us with signs of spring.

Don’t feel too special, however. It isn’t just Idaho that is expected to have a dry and mild winter. The Farmers’ Almanac shows a large percentage of the country will have a much calmer winter than in years past. And while I do love these winter weather predictions for Idaho, I still suggest breaking out the sweaters, cutting some firewood, and stocking up on hot chocolate today!
